A United Parcel Service spokesperson has confirmed that the company plans to build a new processing plant and office in Lachine next to their current building. The scope of the project is still being worked out and they can’t comment further yet.
A local contact says he’s heard that the company will spend $60 million to tear down the current building and rebuild and that Divco will manage the project. The company would confirm neither the figure nor the contractor.
The current Lachine plant is located on a 129,169.2 square metre lot at 1221 32e Avenue. A three-storey 25,701.5 square metre building constructed in 1978 and 8 containers sit on the property. The company also owns a 9,324.4 square metre property at 3350 Rue Fairway. One 666.2 square metre garage built in 1984 sits on that lot. Both properties are fenced in and have lots of parking.
The United Parcel Service Canada head office is located on Champlain Avenue in Burlington, Ontario.
