A 33-year-old man was mortally injured at the Moomba Club at Centropolis in Laval last Thursday. He died in the hospital at 5:58 the same morning.
He was taken to the hospital by Urgence santé, who were called in by police.
“We got a call at 3:15 in the morning saying that there’s a fight between two groups of people,” said Laval police spokeserson Franco di Genova. “The first person on the scene found a victim covered in blood. He’s a Laval resident and he is known by our department, but for nothing major.”
When Di Genova arrived on the scene at 4:30 a.m., there were still 25 or 30 cars in the parking lot. By 9 a.m., everyone who was in the club was interviewed and released and a dog was on site to see if a weapon could be found.
Detectives from the major crimes unit are still investigating.
Moomba operates as an Italian restaurant until 11 p.m. when it becomes a popular dance club.
According to a liquor license submission that Laval police contested in 2011, the site holds 1,000 people.
Previous incidents at the site include a firebombing in September 2014 and the murder of Thierry Beaubrun and Michael Lapolla, who had links to organize crime, in 2005.
