Côte des Neiges–Notre Dame de Grâce borough council awarded a number of grants to local organizations earlier this month. As is the practice in CDN-NDG, despite amounts listed as coming from “Donor” councillors, the monies come from councillors’ discretionary budgets, comprised solely of taxpayer funds, with recipients selected by the councillors for that month.
The groups receiving a total $9,700 include:
Association des Locataires de Place Newman: On-site activities for residents. $250
Association des locataires HLM de la rue Walkley; For celebrations and activities organized by children and their families at HLM Walkley for residents and the neighbourhood. $1,500
Comité International pour la Promotion du Créole et l’Alphabétisation: For the 21st edition of Mois du Créole à Montréal. $400
Forum socioculturel du Bangladesh au Canada: A community festival where people unite to celebrate their culture and heritage in Martin Luther King Park. $900
Filipino-Canadian Artist Association of Quebec: For a public workshop for aspiring singers from 7 to 77 years old. $500
Filipino-Canadian Artist Association of Quebec: For activities of the Canada Day Extravaganza Year 4 at Mackenzie-King Park for CDN-NDG residents. $1,500
Filipino Association of Montreal and Suburbs, (FAMAS) Inc.: For the Town Festival 2022 (Pista Sa Nayon 2022), cultural and social activities for CDN-NDG residents. $1,500
Council of Canadian Filipino Associations of Quebec: For an event marking the 124th anniversary of Philippines’ independence: $1,500
Council of Canadian Filipino Associations of Quebec: For a celebration marking the 161th anniversary of the birth of Philippines national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, with cultural presentations and dinner for Knights of Rizal members. $750
New Hope Senior Citizens’ Centre: Yoga in the Park for members in NDG. $600
YMCA Quebec: For the Coopérative Jeunesse de Travail NDG, which offers eight to 10 participants a chance to gain work experience. $300
