Sonali Patel and Carly Chazonoff Mosse each scored two goals to lead the St. Laurent Xtreme atom C ringette team to a 4-1 win against Pointe Claire in their round-robin playoff game at Raymond Bourque Arena on Sunday.
The win gave St. Laurent a 3-0 playoff record with a final first-round game against BKRA remaining.
“It’s been a good season so far,” Xtreme coach Jonathan Doyon said. “Compared to some more difficult years in the past, this year has been a good season. There are three really good teams in atom C this year, I would say Pointe Claire is right there with us and Quatre Cites has been doing quite well. Pointe Claire won the first two games against St. Laurent this year, and now we’ve won the last two, so we’ll take it.”
Chazonoff Mosse scored two of St. Laurent’s three unanswered goals in the second period, and Patel got her second goal of the game.
“I think our team has developed nicely this season,” Doyon said. “We have a lot of new players who are starting out and they have made a lot of progress this year, and it’s showing now at the end of the season.”
The loss eliminated Pointe Claire from advancing but did little to dampen the spirit of the self-proclaimed “Tacos”.
“The girls picked it,” Pointe Claire coach Jennifer Madden said about the team nickname. “They did just a general consensus of what everybody wanted and that’s what they decided. It is a unique name but you know what, when we have lunches or we have things we have tacos. So it’s a lot of fun. The girls have a great time with it.”
Andrea Mina scored in the first period for the Tacos, who took a 1-1 tie into the second.
“This game was really close right until the end and I said to them that it could have gone either way,” Madden said. “The season was a great season. Like we dominated the season. We won most of our games. We tied some and we lost very few. Sometimes in the playoffs it just happens, whether you’re short some players or you’re just unlucky, but I think all in all we played an amazing game and I’m proud of every one of them.”
