Panthers pounce on Regional championship

The Lakeshore Atom BB Panthers beat the Mercier Braves 2-0 on during championship Sunday at the Pierrefonds Sportsplex to capture the Lac St. Louis Regional Championship.Lakeshore opened the scoring before the game was five minutes when Jack White converted a pass for Salikh Salahutdinov to stake the Panthers to a 1-0 lead. As play progressed, neither opponent could find the back of the net, keeping the fans on the edge of their collective seats. Lakeshore added an insurance marker with a mere 1:43 remaining in regulation time second marker came when Salahutdinov authored an unassisted tally. The Panthers battled through to the buzzer as Mercier made a Braves’ effort, opting for the extra man, hoping to solve Lakeshore netminder Jona Erickson and extend their season into overtime. Erickson barred the door and earned his second straight shutout of the Regionals.

“Winning Regionals capped of a strong finish to the end of the regular seasons, leading to the eventual regional final victory in an undefeated playoff run” said Panther Head Coach Ian McJanet. “We are so proud of the boys and how they have come together as a team in the second half of this season”.

The Panthers head to St. Hyacinthe to take part in the Dodge Cup, which gets underway tomorrow. Lakeshore will open with a 10:15 game against the Laval Éclairs at the L.P. Gaucher Complex.
