Goals at the beginning of the first and second half helped the U-13 AA Dollard girls pick up their first win of the season against Lasalle on Thursday. Justine Malouf opened the scoring only four minutes into the start of the game and from there the Dragons never looked back, scoring two more. Dollard coach Georges Kamel was very pleased with the team’s performance.

“This was by far our best game of the season”, said Kamel. “We’re a great team and we know it. Some results didn’t go our way but the whole squad wants to work and improve. We can only go up from here. It was nice to prove to ourselves that if we keep on working hard the results will come.”

While the score line was one-sided, the game itself was not. Both teams traded chances with both goalkeepers coming up with timely saves. Then five minutes into the second half, Dragons’ forward Maya Yigit found herself alone in front of the net and made no mistake.

As Lasalle continued to press in order to draw level, Dollard bid their time. With three minutes left before full time, a quick counter attack saw Amelia Loch scored the third and final Dragons goal.

With Lasalle and Dollard occupying last and second-to-last place respectively, both teams had the opportunity to pick up their first points of the season. Regardless of the result, Lasalle head coach Antonio Bruzzese remains optimistic.

“I don’t think the score line showed how the game really went,” said Bruzzese. “We moved the ball extremely and had some great chances to get back into the game but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Its a very competitive league and I think that if we keep playing at this level we’re going to surprise a lot of people.”

The Dragons will play their next game June 14th against St-Laurent. Lasalle will take on Lachine on the same day.
