Alzheimer Groupe (AGI), a charitable organization, has been providing essential programs and services to families living with or affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the Montreal area for over 35 years. They are excited to be opening another location — AGI West — expanding their support services in response to families in need on the West Island.
“After receiving a diagnosis, people want to know what resources are available and what the best plan of action is,” said AGI’s Director of Support Services,
Meghan Williams. “No two people are alike, and neither is their dementia, so we need to personalize the services. Our AGI West location will enable us to receive help calls, accommodate walk-ins, make counselling appointments, and have family meetings to ensure everyone in the family is on the right track and has the right kind of care plan.”
Through the generous support of L’Appui, and donations from individuals and businesses in the community, AGI West will be open three days a week. “We are grateful for this funding, which enables us to provide more support for families affected by or living with dementia in our community,” Williams said.
Some of the services AGI will offer on the West Island include:
• Individual and family counselling
• Carer support groups
• A variety of respite programs for carers
• An Activity Centre for those with a diagnosis
• An in-home respite program
• Educational lectures and workshops for family carers and professional care partners
Over the coming months, AGI West will welcome the community through monthly open houses where carers can connect and learn about the services available from AGI and partner organisations.
Alzheimer Groupe (AGI) will continue to focus on best practices in dementia care, providing support for families in Montreal and on the West Island and sensitizing the community at large about Alzheimer’s and other dementias through education and awareness.
AGI West is located at 72A Brunswick, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, H9B 2C5. For more information, call 514-485-7233 or visit the website: www.agiteam.org
