Today, Wednesday, April 17th, the TQSOI (The Table de Quartier Sud de l’Ouest-de-l’Île) will be holding an Earth Day celebration and the theme of the day is the Butterfly Effect.
The theme was chosen according to TQSOI Director Alena Ziuleva because “our small actions can have a big impact when everyone participates.
The second annual event of its kind”will raise the idea of working collectively towards a more sustainable community as we want to inspire attendees to adopt more sustainable practices as individuals and within their group or organization.”
Discussions will focus on how climate change concerns everyone but it “affects vulnerable residents disproportionately, and so we need to think about how we can mitigate its impacts and reduce our environmental footprint collectively,” Ziuleva noted.
Guest speakers will be presenting concepts on how to become more energy efficient “for creating sustainable communities at the grassroots and municipal levels.”
The event is taking place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Westside Gathering Church in Pointe Claire.
To take part in the event or to find out more about the non-profit TQSOI whose aim is to “ improve the quality of life and to favor social development in the south of the West Island” go online at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“The organization hopes the zero-waste event will serve as a positive example for other community-based organizations by inspiring them to reduce environmental impact of their events,” Ziuleva explained.
