Explosion in Senneville

Just before 7 p.m. last Wednesday night, a 911 call was placed to police about an explosion in Senneville.

The victim was a 68 year old woman who had walked down her driveway to retrieve her mail. She lived on Senneville road adjacent to Angus and a homemade explosive device had been placed in her mailbox that set off when she opened it up.

The victim received “upper body injuries and was taken to hospital but there is no fear for her life,” said SPVM Media Relations Officer Benoit Boisselle.

The SWAT Team and Arson Squad was called in as well as two K-9 units to ensure that there were no other harmful explosives nearby. Nothing else was found.

A 23 year old man who was walking by at the time witnessed the explosion and made his way over to help the victim until police arrived.

Parts of Senneville Road were closed from Highway 40 through to Philip Street as part of the investigation.
