The Alzheimer Society of Laval is now taking registrations for its annual outdoor fundraiser next month, Sunday, May 29.
“We just sent our letter to past participants,” said Executive Director Lise Lalande. “The walk will take place at the same park as always [Parc Père-Vimont, 2280 rue Marc], but we’ll have to 10 to 15 superheroes this year. We’ll be able to walk with Superman, Batman, and lots of other heroes.”
Lalande says that a St-Jerome based nonprofit group called Heroes of Hope (Héros de l’espoir) will become the superheroes. They’ll stay in their roles from 8 a.m. when Walk for Alzheimer’s begins until 1 p.m. when it ends.
She says that her organization also encourages child participants to disguise themselves to join the walk.
Anyone can walk for 2km or 5km, whether they disguise themselves or not. Registration costs $15 per person now or $20 the day of the event. Families with two adults and two children can register for only $30 now or $35 onsite.
Laland says the event also includes music and a hot dog and chip lunch, courtesy of Metro Food Market.
“We used to raise quite a lot of money during this event, but things have changed,” said Lalande. “Last year, we raised $22,000 after expenses. This year, we hope to make $35,000.”
Lalande is counting on 350 people joining the race. She’s hoping that most register ahead of time via their website, http://www.alzheimerlaval.org/indexEn.asp?numero=70. You can also sponsor other walkers if you can’t participate that day.
The event takes place rain or shine.
