Sholom Rubashkin speaks in Montreal

Sholom Rubashkin, the U.S. businessman and Chassidic Jew whose 27-year sentence for bank fraud and other violations was commuted in 2017 by President Donald Trumo, spoke last week at Chabad of the Town in Town of Mount Royal. Rubashkin spoke on Unshakable Faith: Keeping the faith in difficult times," and praised Trump as a "true friend of the Jewish people." Calls for the commutation, based on the sentence being disproportionately long, came from both sides of the aisle, including rights lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Democratic Speaker of the House Nanci Pelosi and then-Republican Senator Orrin Hatch.
