The Verdun Southwest Good Neighbourly Relations Committee will hold its first meeting tonight (February 3) at 7 p.m. in council hall at the Verdun Borough office.

“The 17 committee members will discuss the construction work that has been completed, the work underway and the work to come until April in Le Sud-Ouest and Verdun Boroughs, including L’Île-des-Soeurs,” says an invitation to the meeting. “An acoustics expert will do a presentation on the project’s sound management. At the end of the meeting, there will be a question period for the public.”

Twelve of the committee members are citizens from Verdun and Southwest. The other four members represents the City of Montreal, the Verdun and Southwest boroughs, Infrastructure Canada and the construction consortium known as “Signature on the Saint Lawrence” (SSL), which is made up of SNC-Lavalin, ACS and HOCHTIEF.

The project includes a new bridge for the St. Lawrence, a new Nun’s Island Bridge and the reconstruction and widening of Highway 15.

Plans are still on track for the main bridge to be finished by 2018 and the entire project to be complete by October 2019.

In addition, this year, the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) will replace another 43 modular trusses along the current span.
