Place Vertu has been an integral part of not only St. Laurent but also the Montreal landscape for more than 41 years, serving the needs of generations of shoppers.
The mall — which began with such anchor stores as Sears, K-Mart, Dominion, and The Bay — has evolved over the years, modernizing with the times, and adapting to the changing demographics of the St. Laurent borough.
Today, after years of renovations and structural changes, Place Vertu has more than 130 stores and services, welcoming over 11.5 million visitors a year.
The mall’s food court has been expanded to 1,035 seats, to better cater to the lunch hour traffic from the surrounding offices. Place Vertu has attracted major companies like Gold’s Gym, Adonis, Canadian Tire, Winners, and Famous Footwear, which chose Place Vertu for its first Quebec store. Other strong retailers include the newly renovated Sports Experts, as well as Atmosphere. Sports Rousseau, which recently opened its new space, now occupies 60,000 square feet, making it the company’s second largest store in Canada.
While Cambridge was the mall’s original owner, it is now owned by KingSett Capital, the Ontario Pension Board and others, and is managed by 20 Vic Management since April 2013.
“Today, the regional enclosed mall has become a community centre. It’s part of the community’s everyday living,” says general manager Tony Viola. As examples he points to Place Vertu’s longstanding Place a la Marche seniors walking group, the healthy living choices offered by the locally-based eateries at the food court and Adonis, the services and products at Gold’s Gym and Sports Experts, as well as numerous activities for young families. Place Vertu is also very much involved in giving back to the community by benefiting local charities. The mall recently raised over $10,000 for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
“The people enjoy being here because of the atmosphere and the facilities,” Viola adds. “Everything we’ve done in managing Place Vertu is pushing the human aspect of coming to a mall.”
Adds Place Vertu property manager John Cabral, “It’s a full-service shopping centre that offers a one-stop shopping experience for the entire family.”
Place Vertu is located at 3131 Côte Vertu Boulevard in St. Laurent.
