Akiva School

Excited Akiva students take part in the Academic Fair.

In honour of Akiva School’s 50th anniversary, a special Academic Fair was held last Wednesday evening. It featured an incredible exhibit of over two dozen life-sized innovative projects in English, French and Hebrew along the thematic timeline: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. All students, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, worked diligently on their respective projects and were so excited to guide their families through the exhibition to see their work. As envisioned by Akiva’s founder Rabbi David Hartman 50 years ago, innovation and creativity have always been at the core of Akiva’s educational philosophy.

PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY: The MADA Community Centre has indeed grown from my first contacts with the organization when it operated out of small quarters at Plaza Côte des Neiges. Now based in a standalone building on Decarie Boulevard, near Vezina, MADA continues to carry out its important mission to fight hunger, poverty and loneliness for the less fortunate and most vulnerable members of the community. On Thursday, June 6, MADA will hold a 25th anniversary Gala at Le Windsor and recognize 10 couples whom they have designated as the pillars of the community: Helen and Stanley Cons, Debbie and Robert Cutler, Karen and Murray Dalfen, Ethel and Morty Fruchter, Brenda and Samuel Gerwurz, Saryl and Stephen Gross, Gloria and Marc Kakon, Renee and Martin Lieberman, Karen and David Merovitz and Andy and the late Carole Harper. Master mentalist Coby will be the featured performer.Info: shterna@madacenter.com.
