Melany Of MList: Navigate Black Friday sales

Black Friday sales get me excited and stressed out, all at once - there are so many deals to be had, but how do you know you're getting the best one? Black Friday may have been a tradition south of the border for decades, but it's caught on up here and there is lots of money to save! Here's how to navigate Black Friday sales without pulling out your hair.

Start early. Doorbuster sales are no joke. These are especially useful for really in-demand items, like the latest toys.

Do your homework. Make sure you have a list of particular things you want to buy, plus do research so you know what the base price is and what a decent sale price is. Companies know lots of ways to entice you into thinking you're getting a bargain when you're really not.

Try and avoid impulse buying. This is not the time to snag up zillions of unneccessary things, as major big-box stores take advantage of this prime shopping season to clear out lesser-known brands, electronics and more.

If you're ordering online, be sure to check shipping costs - these could outweigh the sale price you're so thrilled about.

Remember that your time is valuable. You may be saving a few dollars, but if you have to stand in crazy-long lines or sit on a website for umpteen hours, than maybe it's not such a deal after all.

Set a budget. Don't go into Black Friday sales with guns blazin! Predetermine an amount you want to spend so you don't put yourself into the poor house.

And don't forget about Cyber Monday... but that's a whole other blog post.

Happy shopping!
