Last week I wrote an April Fool's Day article that Vinny Barrucco would be returning to Virgin Radio after his non-compete clause with The Beat 92.5 FM concluded. I was surprised by the angry reaction I got from some people at the station, particularly since radio shows are especially known for pulling all kinds of pranks.
My sources have told me all along that Vinny did indeed leave to accept an offer from Virgin. Yesterday, program director and drive home show host Mark Bergman announced on his Facebook page that he was parting ways with Virgin, no doubt fueling speculation.
"After nearly 24 years with the same company, the time has come for me to move on," Bergman said. "I want to thank all the incredible people that I’ve had the opportunity to work with for over two decades, forming many friendships that will last a lifetime. Taking some time to consider new opportunities, and looking forward to the adventure that awaits!"
The Virgin Radio website now lists Adam Greenberg as the host from 3 pm to 10 pm. Will he really be doing a seven hour shift? It is clearly only a matter of time before "Cousin Vinny" lands at his old stomping grounds.
Bergman did a great job at Virgin and has to be commended for running the programming end of things and hosting a show of his own. I hope he manages to find an opportunity elsewhere in this industry - perhaps TV?
