Local arts festival bridges culture and community

Discover the rich array of art and culture that NDG has to offer at the third edition of the NDG Arts Week which takes place from August 18-26.  This week-long festival celebrates the abundance of creativity and community spirit found in the west-end of Montreal.
Historically, NDG has been a diverse borough with a rich multicultural background. With this comes an artistic need to be seen, heard, and experienced. The festival provides an opportunity for diverse groups of citizens, artists, and businesses to participate in art, culture, and community-building activities in NDG — all under one banner.
All events are free and once again the festival is partnering with the NDG Food Depot (www.depotndg.org).
“During the recession of the '80s I went to the Food Depot and was grateful that it was available to me,” says G. Scott MacLeod, Art Walk & Festival coordinator. “That experience taught me that hard times and hunger can fall on anyone.”
The Food Depot distributes over 600 food baskets per week and offers a variety of support and skill-building programs. Although all the NDG Arts Week events are free, donations may be made in support of the NDG Food Depot’s programs.
NDG Arts Week will also be working closely with the community organization Head & Hands.  Since 1970, Head & Hands has been committed to the physical and mental health of NDG youth. Today, they offer a number of medical, social, and legal services.  In the tradition of the long defunct “Sunday in the Park” music festival, this year's Arts Week will open with an hommage to this former Head & Hands event, in its new incarnation Samedi in the Park (http://headandhands.ca).
