August 15th, 2012

The organizers of the biggest Montreal Comiccon edition yet, which is to be held at Palais des congrès from September 14 to 16, recently announce the addition of actors Patrick Stewart, Adam Baldwin, Aaron Ashmore and Eddie McClintock to their list of celebrity guests. These guests are joining several other celebrities – including headlining guests, Montreal-born William Shatner and British actor Malcolm McDowell – who will be in attendance throughout the hero-filled weekend that is expected to attract over 30,000 guests.
Patrick Stewart is best known for his television and movie roles, in particular as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies, along with providing the voice for Avery Bullock in American Dad! Adam Baldwin, for his part, is known for his roles as Jayne Cobb in the cult hit Firefly (which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year) and Colonel John Casey in Chuck. As for Aaron Ashmore and Eddie McClintock, Ashmore is known for his role as Jimmy Olsen in Smallville and Steve in Warehouse 13, while McClintock gained public notice with his role as secret agent Peter Lattimer in Warehouse 13. The participation of these two actors at Comiccon was made possible with the help of Ztélé, which is currently airing the French version of Warehouse 13 (L’entrepôt 13).
On the comic book side, fans will be happy to hear that another big industry name has been added to the guest list: David Finch, best known for his work on Batman: The Dark Knight and New Avengers. Gavin Blair, one of the creators of the ReBoot animated series, has also confirmed he will be attending.
Other guests and attractions at the event include horror screenwriter and author Patrick Senécal (in collaboration with Kebweb.tv), special effects makeup artist Rémy Couture, the Scooby-Doo van, the Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch, the original Batmobile from the 1989 Batman movie (in partnership with CTV) and burlesque performer Scarlett James, who will don the Catwoman costume for the occasion. Videogame studios will also be giving panels, presenting the creation aspect of videogaming: Bioware, the studio behind Mass Effect 3; Eidos-Montreal, the creators of Deus Ex: Human Revolution; and Ubisoft, the studio responsible for the transmedia universe of Assassin's Creed.
After-hours events include the Shustard Award nominated comic book series Kill Shakespeare, who will come to life as over a dozen actors from the Montreal Shakespeare Theatre Company will act out the story from the comics with images unfolding on screen. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the (un)death of Bram Stoker, creator of DRACULA, Comiccon and Le Cinéclub/The Film Society will present a screening of the silent German classic NOSFERATU (1922) along with live music by Eric and Justin of Sweet Mother Logic. Last but certainly not least, James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, Torchwood) will be giving a live concert on Friday night; fans will recall the versatile actor's performance in Buffy’s musical episode Once More With Feeling.
