Lakeshore advances in Peewee AA post-season

By Andrew Soong, October 31st, 2012

The Lakeshore Panthers downed the LaSalle Warriors 44-8 in Peewee AA football play-off action Saturday at Parc Benevoles in Kirkland.
“I thought the game was going to be closer, but it was a great game,” said Panthers head coach Jim States about the visiting Warriors. “However, my guys came out to play and won.”
The Panthers were quick to take control of their home turf in the opening minutes of the play-off game with a touchdown by Marshall Mathers followed with a successful convert by teammate Will Sublett. The visiting Warriors seemed to flounder against the Panthers' charge unable to score. According to States “their kids [Warriors] showed a lot of heart, but all of the kids did.”
The Panthers continued their dominance delivering four more touchdowns against the visiting team rallied by Costa Papanikolaou, Mathers and Sublett that included two successful converts. The Warriors defence continued to struggle against the onslaught of the Panthers' push into the end zone ending the half 36-0. According to States “it was our intention to dominate and play hard.”
The Warriors did not waiver despite the growing void in score throughout the game often deflecting further incursions into the end zone by the Panthers.
The Warriors' perseverance was finally rewarded in the closing minute of the third quarter with a touchdown by quarterback Brandon Monroe followed with a successful convert denying the Panthers a shutout. Officials began to run the clock in the closing minutes of the game as the Panthers capped-off the score with two more touchdowns from Papanikolaou and Mathers ending the game 44-8.
“They have a shorter bench than we did and the all of my guys play by policy,” said States about the game against the Warriors. “They are a good team that we defeated earlier in the season, but the games were close and they could have come from behind at any time.”
The Warriors' were unavailable for comment.
