Queen Mary restaurant attacked with Molotov cocktail

By Joel Goldenberg, October 24th, 2012

The Chops high-end Kosher restaurant on Queen Mary Road near Décarie in Snowdon was attacked last week by two individuals described as wearing hoods and masks.
The attack, which took place 4 a.m. last Thursday morning, was one of four similar attacks in a very short period, two before Chops the previous day, and one after. As of Monday afternoon, no suspects had been found for any of the attacks. The arson squad is investigating.
A sign at the restaurant last Thursday afternoon said the establishment was closed because of an act of vandalism.
Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant of the Montreal police told The Suburban that investigators asked one of the owners of the restaurant if there were any conflicts or threats before the attack. Whatever answer that was received by the police was not made public.
The Suburban also attempted to call one of the restaurant's executives, but there was no response.
Police also said that as a result of the Molotov cocktail attack, glass was broken and the device burst into flames, but thanks to a sprinkler, damage caused by the fire was minor. More damage was caused by the water from the sprinkler.
Rabbi Reuben Poupko of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs said there is no evidence so far the attack was an anti-Semitic hate crime.
“There was no note, so swastikas, no warning,” he said. “In the City of Montreal, unfortunately, the bombing of coffee shops and other establishments, is not an unusual phenomenon. Obviously, people will speculate and draw conclusions, none of which have been substantiated in any way at all.”n
