Dwight Anderson lives for family and football

Montreal Alouettes' cornerback Dwight Anderson lives and breathes football during the football season and lives and breathes family in the off-season.
“We switch duties in the off season,” said Anderson who becomes a full-time dad in the off season and an established cook drawing from his native Jamaica. “I share in the cooking with Caribbean cooking including ox-tail and white fish.”
Anderson and his family immigrated to New York when he was just 11-years-old from his native Jamaica. While growing-up Anderson played soccer until his soccer coach realized his potential as a football player. According to Anderson “I played soccer first.”
“A lot of my friends played football, so I tried-out,” said Anderson about his school mates in the United States. “I just fell in love with the game and just kept running with it from there to St. Louis then found my way to the CFL.”
The five-foot-11, defensive back had previously spent three seasons with the Stampeders that include the 2008 Grey Cup win and one year with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2007 before joining the Al's roster in 2010. Anderson also played in the NFL for the St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers. According to Anderson who was quickly adopted by his teammates “I am ready to get another Grey Cup, but one game at a time.”
“The big time players have to step-up and I will bring my 'A' game with me,” said Anderson about the Als' latest bid for the Grey Cup. “If everybody executes like they're supposed to everything should take care of itself.”
In the off-season Anderson likes to the play softball and basket ball as well as staying in shape in preparation for the following season. In addition to his family, he also volunteers his time with the local high school coaching the kids in track and field. Like his role as a veteran Alouette, Anderson on and off the field hopes to be in a “leadership role and tries to pass my experience to the younger guys and youth.”
