Spartans to benefit from RONA's largesse

By Mark Lidbetter, October 24th, 2012

When the CFL Centennial train rolled into the Old Port last Friday morning, part of the arrival ceremonies included the announcement of the organization that would benefit from the RONA Home Field Advantage program, which would go towards upgrading and improving their existing facilities. The motto of the tour is 100 stops, 10 weeks, one cup and will end in Toronto for the playing of the Centennial Grey Cup on Nov. 25.
The Home Field Advantage program will see RONA invest $240,000 in the eight CFL communities across the nation. The program will ensure the tour leaves behind a tangible legacy, not just memories of the travelling showcase of the Canadian Football League. Here in Quebec, the St. Laurent Spartans will receive $30,000 to improve their home base at St. Laurent Park.
"As a partner of the CFL since 2000 and the official presenter of the 100th Grey Cup Tour, RONA is proud to bring the excitement of the Grey Cup to football fans across Canada," said Karim Salabi, Executive Vice-President, Marketing. "We also have the unique opportunity to restore eight local football fields where families and friends gather to share their passion for the game," he added.
Several Spartan players and coaches were proudly present to accept the generous acknowledgement from RONA.
“This is a huge honour for our organization,” Jimmy Skoulos, coach of the peewee Spartans said. “As coaches we are not there for wins and losses, if we can help keep even one kid off the streets then we have done our job. Having the facilities upgraded is greatly appreciated by the Spartans and will make for an even better football experience for our players.”
