Chomedey native Rich Lenkov and his wife Patti Spector, originally from Côte Saint-Luc, have been huge Bruce Springsteen fans ever since they can remember. The couple now live in Chicago with their two children Emma, 7, and Cooper, 3.
Whenever Springsteen and his E Street Band come to the Windy City, Rich and Patti attend his concerts. In fact, they often go several steps further and follow the man known as “The Boss” to performances in other cities.
Last week Springsteen had a sold out show at Wrigley Field. Richard and Patti decided to bring Emma with them. “This was her first concert,” Patti explained.
Rich and Patti knew that the singer always brings a kid on stage during the song Waiting on A Sunny Day.
“We had her learn the song in case she would be the one pulled up,” said Patti. “The day of the concert, she made a huge sign saying ‘ Pick Me.’ It had a hole cut out to stick her face in for the song. Luckily we had awesome seats up front. As soon as Bruce started to sing it, he walked right by us. Emma was on Rich's shoulders and she had her sign in hand and he noticed her right away. When it was time to bring her up, he came back to us and motioned her up. The rest is history!!”
“ She's been training for this literally her whole life because we play Springsteen all the time,” added her proud father. “She had her pigtails on and Springsteen t-shirt so she was hard to resist. He pointed at her and the next thing you know I was handing my child over to Springsteen.”
Emma took the stage with confidence and received a huge ovation from the 50,000 plus crowd.
“I was a little nervous, but really excited,” admits Emma, who was interviewed by numerous media outlets including ABC News & WGN Super Channel.
The Springsteen tour is strangely not coming to Montreal. However, Ottawa is one of the stops on October 19. He’ll even be in Hamilton. The tour already stopped in Toronto.
