The riding of Jeanne-Mance–Viger, which is made up of the traditionally Liberal St. Léonard, remains in Liberal hands today, after incumbent Filomena Rotiroti easily defeated her rivals CAQ’s Jean-François Gagné and PQ’s Nicolas Bonami. In 2008 she took more than 73 percent of the vote.
In LaFontaine, Quebec Liberal Party president and incumbent MNA Marc Tanguay won his seat for the second time in three months, defeating Coalition Avenir Québec’s Domenico Cavaliere and Parti Québécois candidate Marc Boulerice. Tanguay’s lead began soaring as soon as the ballot boxes were closed. He handily won the riding in Rivière des Prairies in a June by-election with more than 53 percent of the vote after the resignation of former cabinet minister and independent MNA Tony Tomassi over corruption charges.
Viau Incumbent Emmanuel Dubourg easily retained Viau riding for the Liberals, with a strong lead early on in the evening, defeating PQ candidate Gabriel Arbieto Munayco, Coalition Avenir Québec’s Walid Hadid and Québec Solidaire’s Geneviève Fortier-Moreau. In 2008, Dubourg won the riding, which contains much of Villeray-St. Michel-Parc Extension, with 58.6 percent of the vote.
In Bourassa-Sauvé, Liberal candidate Rita de Santis outpolled the Parti Québécois’ Marianne Dessureault and CAQ candidate Louis Pelletier to keep the Montreal-North riding in Liberal hands. De Santis was selected to run following the resignation of former education minister and deputy premier Line Beauchamp.
In Anjou–Louis-Riel, outgoing Liberal labour minister Lise Thériault defeated PQ candidate Martine Roux and CAQ’s Richard Campeau. Thériault first won the riding in a 2002 by-election, and in 2008 won with 50.4 percent of votes cast.n
