The 94.7 Hits team came through once again as they hosted their 10th anniversary edition of the Montreal Media Softball Marathon to benefit the Otis Grant and Friends Foundation.
All Saturday long teams that had ponied up money towards the cause took to the two diamonds of Pierrefonds' Brook Park for some softball, followed by refreshments and door prizes in thanks of the squads participating in the event.
The Suburban Headliners took part in the marathon with a late afternoon double header.
First up the Headliners took on Merck Frosst and then followed up with a contest against Play It Forward Kids. A good time was had by all (translation the Headliners did not put one in the win column). But as organizer Marty Lamarre noted, “We are here to play some softball and have some fun, so there's no need to keep score.”
The participation of Play It Forward Kids is part of their ongoing efforts in fundraising for causes that benefit youths in need. Their own organization has helped kids in need on the South Shore and in Montreal be able to participate in sports. To find out about this organization go to www.playitforwardkids.com.
Through the hustle of the organizers, everything consumed, given out or won at the marathon is donated and that means, “We can give 100 percent to the Otis Grant and Friends Foundation,” Lamarre said. “We are thankful and amazed at the generosity of our sponsors and how they give to the cause.
Otis Grant was on hand for the day, not just sitting by but participating in the games as well. “It's been a long day but to be able to meet the players and thank them is important to me,” Grant said. “Marty and 94.7 Hits are big supporters of the foundation and that helps us to continue to work with the youth of the community.”
When the money is tallied the Otis Grant and Friends Foundation looks to receive between $6,800 to $7,000.
