Locals clubs host successful Canadian championships

It takes a solid game plan to win a national title, it also takes a solid game plan to host a huge event like the Canadian lawn bowling championships and that solid game plan was successfully put into action last week by three clubs.
Pointe Claire, Beaconsfield and Pierrefonds lawn bowling clubs served as the host organizations and sites for the playing of the 2012 championships.
More than 150 bowlers from across Canada took part in the tournament in men's and ladies' fours, pairs and singles.
The week got underway on Monday, Aug. 20 with the pomp and circumstance of the opening ceremonies at the Beaconsfield lawn bowling club. From there it was onto the greens of the three clubs and down to business of the participants looking to make it to the medal round hosted by Pointe Claire last Saturday.
On Saturday, there was as silver lining for the Quebec Lawn Bowling Federation as the Quebec A tandem of Rosalie Parsons-Brown and Kerry O'Reilly took the pairs silver medals in an 18-13 loss to Team Manitoba.
Manitoba swept the gold medals in the ladies' events, besting British Columbia in the fours and singles finals to go along with the victory over Quebec in the pairs match-up.
In the men's finals Ontario was two for three with wins in the fours and singles and then took silver in the pairs contest with Nova Scotia taking gold.
Saskatchewan swept the bronze ladies' finals, taking down Ontario A in the fours, British Columbia in the pairs and Quebec B in the singles.
Saskatchewan added a fourth bronze in the men's fours while Ontario A took the pairs and British Columbia earned the bronze in the single.
